My Commitment Letter

Because of my demonstrated success and proven track record through community volunteering, I was asked to join the Fort Bend ISD Special Programs department as a part-time Parent Coordinator in 2006. I had the honor of working as a seasoned Parent Educator for 12.5 years. It was a privilege to work with many families, adults and guardians to provide a multitude of life skills classes that increased parental involvement in FBISD Title I campuses. In my tenure, I also took the initiative to voluntarily train without pay other parent coordinators. With my assistance, they were able to tailor their school programs based on their campuses' unique and diverse population and needs.

I resigned from my Parent Educator position to fulfill my divine purpose and respond to the call from the community for change!   The community continues to suffer because of the lack of transparency and a need for accountability in the district. I am confident I can work collaboratively to increase the transparency and ensure accountability is achieved in our district for the best interest of all children and our communities. I will hold firm to ensure district leaders effectively use community engagement methods, instruments, and strategies. Unaddressed disparities and achievement gaps continue to increase in FBISD. These longstanding issues must be addressed by employing researched and evidence- based solutions, outcome measures and monitoring, and consistent evaluations. Importantly, we must value community input every step of the way!

I have a demonstrated commitment and passion to serve children and help our educational system become better.  I am honored to have this opportunity to serve our district, our children and our community on a higher level. I look forward to partnering to improve equity in education, to balance our district’s budget, affect change through district policy, require better community engagement and to ensure we have transparency while moving Missouri City forward.

Thank you everyone for your support, and I’ll see you at the polls.  Your vote truly does matter to me, and your voice will go with me all the way to the board room!

Monica Riley - 'Next' Councilwoman of Missouri City District A

Dear Fellow Missouri City community:

It is an honor to announce my candidacy for Missouri City Council District A.

I moved to Missouri City in 1976 as a child and attended all East Side Fort Bend ISD schools: Blueridge ES, Briargate ES, Missouri City Jr. High, and Willowridge HS. I am proud to have graduated as a FBISD Willowridge HS Eagle in 1989.  I returned to my hometown of Missouri City in 1995 and later became a homeowner and taxpayer of Missouri City District A in 2000. I have lived in the the same District A home  consistently for 24 years.

My core belief, as a citizen, has been to live in a neighborhood that has a reputation of valuing children’s education and respecting tax payers’ dollars. I remain involved as a parent in my children’s education and has done so from the beginning to see this belief realized. I take a hands on approach in the lives of my children and for the betterment of my community.  Over 20 years, I have served my community as an education activist and student advocate. My active involvement earned me the recognition as a community leader and lead organizer for more equity in education, stronger and sustainable school programs, and enhanced community partnerships.

With the support from my loving husband, Larry and our seven (7) daughters, most of whom attended FBISD schools, I was fortunate to have volunteered throughout Fort Bend.  I served as an active member and in executive leadership roles on multiple PTOs, PTAs and Booster Clubs at various campuses on the East and West side of FBISD. I helped these schools raise over $100,000 combined, by spearheading fundraisers and increasing their membership participation. I have served (and continue to serve) as a committed member to multiple Campus Based Leadership Teams (CBLT) on the East and West side of FBISD. I was selected to serve on the original FBISD Facilities Master Planning in 2013-2014 as a Steering Committee Member. Recently, I served as a Steering Committee Member for Willowridge HS P-Tech Early College Program.  As a champion for early literacy and full day Pre-K, I was sought after as a community leader to advise on innovative strategies for the Ridgemont Early Learning Center and Ridgemont Early Intervention Center.
